Edgware and Hendon Reform Synagogue (EHRS) is an inclusive, progressive, vibrant and welcoming Holy community, which strongly values tradition whilst responding to the challenges of modern day Jewish living.
There are so many activities and opportunities at EHRS, which make it much more than a synagogue, it is a community centre for all ages, or as someone described us, a multiplex cinema offering something for everyone.
The synagogue building is a place of worship and also a community centre with many different regular and special activities for all ages. We are delighted to offer a huge range of Synagogue services and activities to cater for all ages. These include Nagila, our Early Years Nursery; Orot, our Religion School; Youth Clubs; Uniformed Groups; our Day Centre for the elderly, plus a wide range of adult education and social groups.
The Honorary Officers and Council of EHRS are proud to announce the appointment of Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers as Rabbi with effect from late April 2020. She will join Senior Rabbi Mark Goldsmith and Rabbi Emily Reitsma-Jurman to make our rabbinic team. We acknowledge the very significant achievements of Rabbi Young-Somers during her tenure as Community Educator for Reform Judaism and, before that, as Rabbi in the team at West London Synagogue. We look forward to working with her, bringing her skills as Rabbi and educator to EHRS, which she has displayed since her Semichah from Leo Baeck College in 2009. During her Leo Baeck College training Rabbi Debbie served as student Rabbi in the EDRS congregation.
Rabbi Neil Kraft will be retiring from 18 years of service to the EHRS community in early April 2020 and will become one of our Emeritus Rabbis. Following a comprehensive search by the EHRS Rabbinic Succession Group, which attracted several excellent candidates from the UK and abroad, Rabbi Debbie was the stand-out candidate to work with our community. She will immediately be able to make a great contribution to our Rabbinic team, helping to fill the roles that Rabbi Kraft will leave and will work with our professional and lay teams to continue to nurture and grow EHRS.
Rabbi Young-Somers said: 'I am delighted to be joining the team at EHRS. I am looking forward to walking with the members of the congregation on their Jewish journeys, and to continuing the work of so many others in growing a vibrant and meaningful Reform Judaism in the synagogue building and beyond.'
We wish Rabbi Young-Somers a huge Mazeltov and look forward to welcoming her and her family to EHRS.
